The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGC LTHE) provides a nationally recognised qualification for teaching and academic practice in HE. The course is designed for participants to gain a clear understanding of the core activities and pedagogical theory underpinning a professional role in teaching and supporting learning in HE and is accredited by AdvanceHE (Higher Education Academy).

On successful completion of the PGC LTHE participants will gain 60 masters’ level credits and will then have the option to proceed to the Masters in Higher Education.

Entry Requirements

Entry to Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education

To apply for the PGCLTHE you must:

  • Teach regularly throughout the unit delivery;
  • Be involved in the design and planning of learning activities;
  • Assess and give feedback to learners;
  • Hold a first degree (or equivalent) in any subject.

  • complete the application form and email it to You should ensure that we receive your application at least 4 weeks before the start date of the first unit you wish to study.

Once you are enrolled on the PGCLTHE you will need to select units and map your own route through the programme by registering on each unit page. Please contact for further advice if required.

Applicants External to MMU

We welcome applications from those who teach within a higher education setting and meet the entry requirements above.

A further fee may be payable to the HEA (AdvanceHE) to claim the award of Fellowship (upon completion of the LTA unit) . See the HEA website for further details on these fees.


All units are delivered through a blended learning model that incorporates a range of approaches utilising variety of face to face teaching methods together with online guided learning. To offer the maximum flexibility and the opportunity for participants to personalise their own learning, online learning resources have been developed and the participants can engage with these at the most convenient time for them.
