On successful completion of this unit participants will be able to:

1. Critically apply appropriate theories to the design and teaching of an episode of inclusive learning
2. Design and teach constructively aligned sessions to a diverse student community
3. Engage with key institutional and national strategic drivers appropriate to their professional practice
4. Critically analyse and reflect on observations of practice (including assessment), using an appropriate model of reflection, in order to enhance personal professional development.

This unit focuses on the enhancement of the student experience and the development of critical reflective practice with a particular emphasis on observations of practice.  Learning blocks will form key elements for the unit and will address aspects of academic practice - e.g. the UKPSF and relationship to practice, the HE landscape, further consideration of learning theories and ‘good’ practice situated within different disciplinary and curriculum design contexts.  All key elements are integrated with the relevant underpinning teaching and learning theories.

These will focus on applying the concepts of reflection to the observations of practice. Participants will consider how they can demonstrate the application of:

• underpinning theories and models of teaching and learning and reflective practice
• methods to ensure inclusive teaching and learning strategies
• techniques for session planning within constructively aligned teaching learning and assessment
• models of reflective practice
• theory in practice
• engagement with the disciplinary and contextual drivers and strategies appropriate to their practice
• appropriate quality measurement and enhancement mechanisms.

The assessment strategy focuses on the demonstration of the participant’s learning and critical reflection from the unit.  It is based upon a reflective practice portfolio. 

Formative:
Tutor review of draft / outline portfolio.  A submission date will be set for draft portfolio submission for tutor formative feedback.

Summative:
The completion of a portfolio (2500 words).  Portfolio contents will be negotiated and determined in consultation and discussion between the participant and the tutor to allow the student to fully demonstrate the unit learning outcomes.
